With the first semester coming to a close, that also means the wrap-up of fall sports. This year many teams and athletes made tremendous strides and significant accomplishments.

Boys Soccer:
The boys soccer team finished with an overall record of 13-3-3 with a deep playoff run to the semifinals while also being league champions. The Eagles were seeded as the 7th in the state playoffs.
Their playoff run consisted of a 4-1 win over Arvada West (26) in the first round, a 5-0 win over Grand Junction (10) in the second round round, an overtime thriller win 1-0 against Cherry Creek (2) in the quarter finals, and wrapped up with a tough semifinal loss 3-2 against Regis Jesuit (6) who went on to win it all.
Eagles senior midfielder Wyatt VanHorn said, “The regular season went really well. We started off not great, but we started to get some chemistry and ended up figuring out how to score, leading to more wins. We used our momentum going into the playoffs and made a deep run.”
Although the slow start to the season, the Eagles were able to pick it up and find success as the season went on.
Senior midfielder Jake Hull said, “At the start of the season, we couldn’t score too many goals, but as the season progressed, we did a good job of bonding together as a team and working hard to start scoring some goals and getting into a better position for the playoffs.” Hull added, “My favorite memory of my high school soccer career was meeting new people and making new friends along the way.”
Volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team finished with an overall record of 22-8 with a playoff run to the quarterfinals while also being third in the league. The Eagles were seeded as the 8th in the state playoffs. Their playoff run started off with a 3-0 win over Loveland (9) and then losing to Fossil Ridge (1) in the next round. But in volleyball playoffs, it’s double elimination, so the Eagles weren’t done quite yet. They then went on to get a 3-1 win over Denver South (10) in the second round, and ended with a tough loss 3-1 against Valor Christian (2), who went on to win it all.
Morgan Holloman (12) said, “Our season went good. We had a fun trip up to state. Leading up to state we practiced a lot and did a lot of team bonding. My favorite part of the season was definitely the team dinners that we had and playing the big Denver teams at state.”
Football
The Eagles football team finished with a 7-4 record with a 4-1 league record, finishing 2nd behind Legend. The Eagles managed to be seeded 7th in the playoffs, earning themselves a bye for the first round, but then unfortunately losing in the second round to the tenth seed Mullen in a close 18-21 battle.
Malik Glenn (12) said, “Leading up to the season, we worked very hard during the summer. We proved ourselves this year by doing better than what everybody else thought we would do. My favorite moments from this season were the bus rides back after winning because we would play loud music, and the vibes were amazing.”
Boys Tennis
This year our boys tennis team ended up winning the league with an 8-0 record while placing 2nd at regionals earning them a spot in the playoffs. Braylon Desquitado placed 8th at state and Advait Jadhav placed 4th at state for singles.
Rhythm Kasat (10) said, “I think our season was really successful and I’m proud of our team. My favorite part of the season was making it to state and going up to Denver to play some of the best teams in the state.”
Field Hockey
This year the field hockey team had an impressive season. They went 10-5-2 and were seeded number 8. Their playoff run consisted of a 1-0 win over Smokey Hill (11) and then a tough loss 7-0 against Colorado Academy (3) in the second round.
Hayden Ackley (11) said, “Our season went really well and we made tremendous growth from last season. We set new records for our program in most goals scored, most goal scorers and most games won in program history which was really awesome.”
When asked about her favorite memory Ackley added, “I think my favorite memory would be having the game winning assist in overtime against a team we’ve never beaten before and who actually beat us pretty badly in previous seasons. We then went on to also knock them out of the playoffs first round which was awesome.”
Boys Golf
Out on the course our golf team had a successful season with many athletes competing through multiple tournaments and placing high. The golf team also faced some change this season with a switch in golf courses from Pine Creek to Cherokee Ridge.
Jett Wilson (11) said, “I think the season went well, we gained more teammates and teammates who were on the team before improved from last year. It was hard switching from Pine Creek Golf Course to Cherokee Ridge Golf Course because it was out of the way and made it hard for teammates who didn’t have cars to get there from school.” Wilson added, “Cherokee was still awesome though and was in great condition and was still fun being able to golf with everyone. I think the team didn’t do as good as we wanted to, especially for some of us, but it happens and is just a season, and we will get it going next year and practice till then.”
For some of the players on the team it was their first ever season with Pine Creek golf.
John Kubik (12) said, “I think it was pretty fun. It was my first time playing on the golf team, I just felt like trying out and just started playing in April. I felt like I was the glue guy of the team and my favorite part of the season was just playing with my friends and the fun practices.”
