While the Pine Creek wrestling team has celebrated a string of impressive victories recently, Head Coach Gabel is quick to point out that these wins are merely the byproduct of a deeper foundation: unwavering discipline and a “family-first” culture. Coach Gabel emphasizes that while a hand raised in victory is a significant accomplishment, the program’s true mission is to forge character that endures long after the athletes hang up their singlets.
Having steered the program for several years, Gabel has overseen remarkable growth throughout the 2025-2026 season. The team took 21 qualifiers to the State Tournament, and walked away with six placers.
Among the standout performers is Gia Gabel, who recently secured a league championship title and placed 3rd at the State Tournament. Gia credits her ascent to the dual support of her father’s coaching and her personal faith, noting that her spiritual path provides the necessary resilience to navigate the physical and mental rigors of the sport.
Ultimately, the team’s dominance isn’t just born under the spotlights; it is rooted in the intense after-school sessions in the wrestling room. There, the athletes foster an environment where teammates relentlessly push one another to thrive, proving that their collective bond is their greatest competitive advantage.
