The National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognize less than 2 percent of students who submitted their artwork. Two Pine Creek Students, London Pate (11) and Westin Hansen (11), were both recognized as part of that 2 percent. London Pate received 2 gold medals for her Computer art works, “For the Camera” and “Read Comics” and was the only student from Colorado Springs to receive a gold medal. Westin Hansen was recognized with a silver medal for his work “The Scarecrow.”
When finding out about winning an award both students were in a joyful shock.
Hansen said, “I worked on it probably for about a month so it meant a lot.”
Pate said, “It was really exciting and I didn’t expect it.” Pate will be recognized this June at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
