Sophomore Nolan Vuldy is an up-and-coming electronic dance music (EDM) artist with around three hundred monthly listeners on Spotify. He primarily focuses on the subgenres of Progressive House and Tech House. Fifteen-year-old Vuldy has DJ’ed multiple school events like the Color Dance and Homecoming. We got an exclusive interview with Vuldy right before homecoming.
“I’ve been making music ever since I was in the third grade. I started when I was eight years old,” says Vuldy. Vuldy has quickly risen in popularity the last four to five months. Since June of 2023, he has gone from less than one hundred monthly listeners to peaking at a whopping 500+ monthly listeners as of August.
Although the EDM genre is a difficult niche to find he is still building a good fan base by promoting his music on social media such as Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. Through those platforms, he has also connected with popular artists in the same genre. “It was kind of mind-blowing. ’cause I always send messages on Instagram to people I really look up to,” said Vuldy when asked about getting recognition from other artists. With these connections, he will be introduced to different opportunities, like DJing, to grow his career as a music artist.
Vuldy has received a lot of support from his friends and family. Vuldy’s cousin, Elaina Madden (9), said that she is proud of Vuldy for building his music career from the ground up and enjoys listening to his music. “I really enjoy listening to his music because of the joy and satisfaction I get from it,” says Gavin Carpenter, one of Vuldy’s Friends.
We asked Vuldy about what it was like getting to help DJ and do the music for events and he told us that one of his favorite parts of DJing is getting to try and read the crowd to know what to do. During homecoming, he helped with the mixing of the music as well as solely operating the lights. Not only that but his new song, Hold On (Unshakeable) was featured at the event and he received a ton of positive feedback from it. With connections from Eddy Sound (Colorado’s biggest production company), Vuldy is already booked out for shows throughout the year.
When asked if he preferred DJing or producing music more he responded: “If I had to pick one, I’d probably choose to produce music because that’s really how I can express myself”
