The Chat-GPT Phenomenon: Chat-GPT in Pine Creek

Chat-GPT is a piece of software recently developed and published by the company OpenAI, the current leader in the development of AI technology, the software itself a language model that has access to over 175 billion learning parameters that can fulfill a multitude of tasks, when we asked Chat-GPT to write an introduction for this article it proceeded to give us the following,

“ChatGPT is a language model created by OpenAI that is designed to engage in natural language conversations with humans. It uses machine learning techniques to generate responses to text inputs that mimic the style and content of human conversation. ChatGPT is trained on a massive corpus of text data, enabling it to generate high-quality responses to a wide range of topics and questions. It is part of a growing trend in natural language processing that aims to create more intelligent and responsive chatbots and virtual assistants that can interact with humans in a more natural and engaging way. ChatGPT is looked at as a useful tool for many people including students. Mr. Peloton-cox, a teacher at Pine Creek high school said “quote” this shows how chatGPT can be a useful tool to many students trying to gather data for things like research papers or projects.”

While Chat-GPT can be easy to detect in some situations, it has sparked a war between the people trying to detect it, and ever-increasingly elaborate prompts that allow it to bypass these limits, when the text above was posted into a AI detector, it received a grading of 100% likelihood written by AI, if you tool with the prompting on the newest version of the software, we were able to create the following,

“At Pine Creek High School, a cutting-edge experiment is unfolding, introducing Chat-GPT, a state-of-the-art language model, to the realm of education. While the integration of this AI-driven marvel showcases a tapestry of fascinating applications, the conversations it generates are both intriguing and sporadic. With an average perplexity, the content tends to oscillate between predictable and chaotic, while its high burstiness demonstrates the rapid shifts in complexity and subject matter. As we delve into the world of Chat-GPT at Pine Creek High School, we’ll explore the exhilarating journey of students and educators harnessing the potential of this groundbreaking technology amidst a whirlwind of diverse interactions.”

This paragraph surprisingly does NOT register on AI detectors, it says it is entirely written by a human. This is scary for the education community especially for the teachers at Pine Creek, according to an interview with Mr. Pelton-Cox a history teacher, “This has the ability to ruin education but also improve upon it.”, with him also saying, “It can be a good thing for learning in that it will help find information, but it will also increase the amount of plagiarism.” In an interview with our librarians Ms. Krissner and Ms. Britney , they stated it could be a good tool to cause innovation in the realm of teaching, “When we cut down on the busy work that Chat-GPT does, we can not only help teach our students better, but we can also make it obsolete by requiring higher thinking and less busy-work.” This shows how Chat GPT can be used in a healthy and honest way. There are both good and bad that comes from this revolutionary A.I. According to a student at Pine Creek High School, Brody Thompson (10) “AI could be good for the school but it is technically cheating.”
