The next school year is right around the corner and students are already choosing classes, there are many upcoming changes. The two main courses being adjusted are Chemistry and AP seminar being placed into more student’s school days.
This starts with Chemistry being a REQUIRED class, starting with the class of 2028. So, all upcoming sophomores will have to take chemistry next school year. This is a big change as many current sophomores are enrolled in environmental science. Chemistry teacher Karen Darrow said, “Chemistry is a prerequisite for a lot of upper-level classes,” so this leads to students opening their choices for future classes. You can always take AP environmental science if interested. Chemistry is also a good class to have, as it provides a lot of basic knowledge.
Now that everyone has already chosen their classes, students are now asking and discussing their future classes. “It gives us a little less freedom to choose what science class we want,” Oscar Vitt (9) said, “Also chemistry gives you more options for future science classes too.” Overall, students should not push off picking classes and with new things every year, you should make sure you’re set for next year.
Chemistry is not the only class experiencing change. The new courses include Jewelry Making 3, CK-AP Cybersecurity 2, Sports Training, Astronomy 2, and AP seminar. The course guide on the school website has more information.
AP seminar is especially important because it allows Pine Creek to become an AP Capstone school. This means that our school now consists of a 2 year program, of AP seminars, and research. Also, AP seminar is a prerequisite for AP research which could further enhance your reading and writing skills. Alex Hyskell (10) said, “I’m taking it because of the knowledge in researching and the benefits in learning how to research.”
