Winter Assembly Promotes First Home Games

To kick off the winter sports season, an assembly was held on Monday, November 29, the first day back from Thanksgiving break. At the assembly , the schools 15 honor societies were recognized, as well as the winter sports teams. The Marine recruiters for Pine Creek were also introduced. The recruiters challenged athletes to participate in marine combat drills. These drills were very hard, although not even close to what real marine drills consist of. Emma Hicks (9th), who represented the cheerleaders in the competition said “The hardest part was probably the pushups”. The students had to were competing against each other for a prize which hyped up the new winter season.  The assistant principal introduced the new winter sports coming this season boys/girls basketball, girls swim and dive, ice hockey, and boys/girls wrestling all start. Athletes are excited for the games to come and are hoping to have the stands filled. The first home game for all winter sports is free for students with their student I.D in order to help cheer on the athletes and fill the stands.  Boys basketball started their season with a win on November 30 against Sand Creek.  Girls swim and dive started their season at Cheyenne Mountain with a win  on December 2. Boys wrestling won the best of the best tournament held at Pine Creek on December 3 and 4. This is the first time wrestling has won this tournament since 2013.  Hockey is having their first home game at Clune Arena at the Air Force Academy on December 6 at 7:45 pm. The first varsity girls basketball home game is December 10 at 7 p.m.
