Each new school year is already filled with mysteries, but the new fall play will be the most captivating of all. The upcoming production, “Deadline,” by Don Zolidis, follows eight mystery writers who compete in a high-stakes writing competition while also attempting to solve a murder. As tensions rise in the story, so do nerves about approaching auditions.
The director of Pine Creek productions, Darcey LaBandt, shared that auditions for the play began on Aug. 17. During her inagural year (24-25) with the Pine Creek Theatre community, LaBandt directed, “Community Garden,” and “The Addams Family.” Each production features students in diverse roles, showcasing their talents. “I’m hoping as the program goes, we can get as many people on stage as possible.” LaBandt conveys.
Lots of nerves are in the air when going into auditions. Fortunately, some encouraging advice came from Lainey Ziemer (12), the President of Thespian Society at Pine Creek. “Confidence goes a long way,” Ziemer said. “Hold yourself strong and be sure of yourself when auditioning.”
Her words reflect the mindset many students strive to embrace. Cienna Miller (10), a fellow member of the theatre community, shared her own thoughts and feelings towards auditions. “I’m feeling a little nervous going into it,” Miller admits, “But, no matter what, I know that the play is going to be amazing regardless.”
As the audition process concluded, callbacks were hosted August 28 and the official cast and crew list was posted on Aug. 29. With roles assigned, rehearsals quickly began to bring the mystery to life on stage. From drama-filled rehearsals to creative set-building, the production team is already hard at work. Students and staff are eagerly looking forward to seeing the story unfold under auditorium lights.
