Football season is underway and the Eagles stand at a record of 2-1 after their homecoming win against Loveland 42-0. After a loss against Valor Christian in week 0 at home, the Eagles bounced back the next week defeating Cherokee Trail 35-21.
We talked to some of the players before the game about their goals, “I’m looking for a win and hoping this is the game were we finally get our momentum for the harder games to come,” Malakai Harkley (12) said.
The team has an away game against Arapahoe on September 19 before being back home against Cherry Creek September 25.
Cooper Romero (10) said, “I’m looking forward to winning and I feel that the rest of our season will be successful.”
New head coach, Trevor Hudson previously coached at American Canyon in California, where he won a state championship and Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, a nationally recognized football powerhouse. When asked about his past experiences Hudson said, “What Bishop Gorman taught me was what ‘right’ looks like. [When] you’ve been in a program for so many years you see how they have success, you see the way they win, you see the games that they get, and then you just watch the blueprint of how they get there.” Hudson added, “I took some of the things I learned from Bishop Gorman and I applied it to American Canyon. In a very short period of time, I was able to have some phenomenal success.”
Players have noticed a significant difference under Coach Hudson’s leadership.
Brayden Plunkett (11) said, “It helps having a relationship with him when you’re not afraid to ask questions and learn stuff about the sport and the schemes it helps you grow as a player.”
Hudson’s relationship with his players go beyond just football.
“Coach Hudson is the best mentor I could have in life and in the game of football, he’s like the uncle with a lot of experience and stories, I have learned a lot from him,” said Harkley”
Relationships with his players are built throughout the entire program.
Romero added, “He’s just a super cool guy and he runs a great program and relates to his players really well.”
