Pine Creek High School values all sports programs, including Boys Swimming. While the team may not have widespread recognition within the school, they are competitive within Colorado swimming.
Currently, the swimming Eagles are 8-1 and ranked 3rd in their league. With the CSML championships approaching, Pine Creek must be prepared for the upcoming event. Head coach Kent Nielson stated, “We are hosting again this year, so we have home pool advantage. Our guys are looking to make this their 4th straight CSML title, working hard at practice.” He added, “We had some boys who came out that did not know how to swim; now they are winning events at dual meets,” highlighting the great strides made since the start of the season.
However, despite their 8-1 record, there have been challenges. Chase Morris (10) commented, “The only obstacle this season has been DCC, which is the only team we have lost to.” The team has had a successful season and is competing for the CSML league title on Thursday, May 1.
Swimming is not just about winning; it’s also about what it means to the swimmers. Divyansh Kulkarni (12) shared, “Just being around friends and talking to them, hanging out, and the pasta parties we have before every meet” are important aspects of the team. Morris added, “It’s a really fun sport and a lot of really good exercise and a great team spirit.” This camaraderie among players makes competitions enjoyable and will be beneficial at CSML this year.
As the swimming season concludes, coinciding with the end of the school year, Nielsen encourages considering joining next year: “Give it a try! We do not cut swimmers or divers who are willing to put in the work and grow the sport of swimming.” So, if you’re looking for a fun way to stay active and be part of a team, consider making a splash next season; you might just discover your new favorite sport.
