Pine Creek football is a powerhouse team in Colorado Springs and is being recognized as a staunch competitor in the whole state. New varsity head coach David Hedges is ready to live up to the expectations of the program’s storied history, which boasts 13 league titles and four state championships.
Hedges has high expectations for this season. He aims to “win city, win league, and play on Thanksgiving.”
Hedges has a long history of football whether it’s playing or coaching. His football journey started when he played football at Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs. After that, he was able to play college football at the University of South Dakota for five years before deciding to go to Europe, where he played and coached for a year. Hedges returned to the US to finish his degree before continuing his football career.
Before coming to Pine Creek, Hedges coached at Niceville High School in Florida, where he was the offensive coordinator.
When asked about the team this year, Hedges said, “They continue to fight, continue to get better, like to compete, and they have a great spirit to them.”
Hedges always pushes his players to the max and wants them to do their best. Isaak Walker (12) said, “Coach Hedges holds us to a higher standard than where we think we need to be.”
Hedges has high expectations of the players on and off the field.
Jaxon Romero (10) said “Coach Hedges cares about each and every single one of his players and wants to see everyone succeed.”
The Eagles are off to a strong start on the season going into week 5 with a 3-1 record after their first home-field victory on September 20 against Arapahoe. Their next game will be on Friday, September 27, away against a tough Cherry Creek team.
