The French National Honor Society held a ceremony to induct 33 new members on September 29th, initiating new members and inspiring returning members. Many students aspire to join the French National Honor Society (FNHS) as well because, “I figured it was the next level of dedication,” Emily Cook (12) said.
Members joined because they wanted to learn more about France. Anikah Werner (10) said, “[I wanted] learn about the French culture, and the stuff we normally don’t get to do during French class.” The society covers more topics about the French culture and holidays they celebrate that are not celebrated in the United States.
Learning about the holidays excites many of the members. One of the favorite events is the Christmas party. “[I look forward to] the Christmas party and the things we learn about French culture, like the food and tradition,” said Cook. The society stays in a positive and fun atmosphere throughout the year hosting many holidays events.
Caleb Boutwell (12) said he returned to the club because, “It was fun last year, it should be fun this year, [I’m] looking forward to the whole thing in general.” Learning French in a more advanced and connected way helps members be able to travel and understand the language. Many members joined the French club first to begin their experience in learning more about the French and showcasing their dedication to the language.
Cook explained why she moved onto the French Honor Society, “it’s more official it is more recognized by others and understanding of French and learning the language, one is just the next step both are similar.” Students are required to be in French 3 or higher, as well as being above grade nine. Students who do not want the commitment of another honor society, or may not meet the requirements are encouraged to join the French Club which has no specific requirements to join.
