Countdown to Christmas
The holidays are here and winter break is fast approaching! There are many things that make the holidays we all celebrate special. So, to ring in the most wonderful time of the year, students shared their opinions on their favorite holiday activities.
Students were asked what they enjoyed doing over winter break that they could not over other breaks. Snow sports are a popular activity over winter break. Ian Madson (9) says that he enjoys skiing. John Thien (9) shares a similar opinion saying that he likes, “to go skiing or sledding with my family.” Spending time with family and friends is another important part of celebrating the season. Braxton Burges (9) says that he enjoys, “Spending time with grandparents,” during the break. William Blasko (9) enjoys spending his break playing “video games with friends.”
The box office is usually hopping with new releases for movie-goers over the extended break, although some students prefer to watch the classics at home. Elf starring Will Ferrell was a popular opinion shared among several students. However, Thein also enjoys the new Spirited movie with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds on Apple TV+. Blasko enjoys the Tim Burton classic The Nightmare Before Christmas.
While most students celebrate the winter holiday, Christmas, Thein and his family also celebrate St Nick’s Day. The holiday is usually observed on December 5 or 6 and is also known as the Feast of Saint Nicholas. Thein said, “ we just open our stockings early.” for their family celebration.
Traditions have always been important when defining the holidays we celebrate. Madson likes to chill during the holiday season, while Burges enjoys, “Going to my grandparents house.” Blasko’s traditions include making tamales and Thien has, “an elf on the shelf we like to move around.” Vuldy and his family enjoy getting together and exchanging gifts.
The holidays just wouldn’t be the same without some sweet treats. Thien and Madson share a similar opinion, saying that their favorite holiday food is cookies. Burges enjoys a fast food classic saying that the, “Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell” is his holiday favorite. Blasko enjoys pineapple tamales and Vuldy enjoys ham.
Finally, students look forward to break for various reasons. Madson looks forward to no school and Blasko looks forward to, “having fun with friends without the worry of homework.” Vuldy looks forward to getting to see family over the holiday season. “I look forward to the hockey season,” said Thein, “because that is when it starts.”
No matter how or what you celebrate, everyone has a great way to celebrate the closing of a year.
